Another dream of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The pinnacle of 19th-century decorative art are the main rooms, which even outshine Versailles – the model for this palace. The quality of the porcelain furnishings and the textiles on display is of international class. The showpieces and splendid objects commissioned by Ludwig II demonstrate the European standing of Munich craftsmanship in the 19th century. The palace remained only a torso, as did the magnificent garden, of which only the central axis with its spectacular water features was completed.
