Linderhof Palace
A Rococo dream in the Bavarian Alps
One of the most significant artistic ensembles of the 19th century is Linderhof Palace and its park. The Royal Villa is shaped by the French Rococo of the 18th century. The ornamentation is by no means merely imitated, however, but strongly influenced by South German models – and thus quite distinctive.
As with Ludwig II’s other palaces, the mastery of the craftsmanship is impressive here too. Linderhof Palace is the only one of Ludwig II’s palaces that he was able to complete and live in.
